Obama before and after the election

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

While running for office Mr. Obama promised to close Gitmo, bring home the troops from Iraq, refocus the military attention to the war in Afghanistan, and heal America’s economy. These were big promises that seemed impossible for one man to accomplish in 4 years. Yet those promises were also the hopes and dreams of the Americian people and those people came out in record numbers to vote for the man who had made them. But has Obama kept his campaign promises? The answer is up for debate.

Obama did close Gitmo as promised, but he also maintained the right to use torture and to hold prisoners without trial. What then was the moral purpose for the closing? This shows that Obama has a vast misunderstanding of the reasons behind the people’s wanting the prison closed and went forward with the closing only as an act of public relations.  Still the prison is closed and America and the world is a better place because of that closing.

Meanwhile, our men and women still die daily in the wasteland known as Iraq.  Indeed Obama has ask for more money to continue war operations in both countries.  This in no way supports the campaign promises made by Barack Obama about war or the economy.  Yet, Obama has worked to pass an economic stimulus bill, create more jobs, and lower interest rates.

Will Obama be America’s savior or is he simply a slightly less retarded form  of the Bush Administration? The answer is yet to be seen, but one thing is certain.  Improvement is needed!

The problem with Kentucky’s Education And The US Economy Through The Eyes Of The Children

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

Being a mother of school age children truly gives one a unique perspective of the problems of the day and their cause.  For example, just this week I have come to understand, through my children, why it is that test scores show Kentucky’s students behind the rest of the nation and our nation behind the rest of the civilized world and also why the U.S. economy is failing.

When ask what they did in school on Friday afternoon my children began to ramble on about going to watch an assembly  by “the yo yo man” and how the office was now selling yo yos. Of course, they wanted to me to know all of the fantastic tricks this man had done with his yo yo and that they simply must have the $25 black dragonfly yo yo that he used so that they too could do these amazing tricks and also so they wouldn’t be the only kids in school not to have one.

I was sure there was some mistake, but upon further investigation the childeren were telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Indeed the school had allowed a toy salesman to put on an assembly and were indeed now selling his $25 yo yo at the office.

Much to my dismay the school not only admitted this but indeed seemed to be proud that they offered the children such an enjoyable time.  Mind you, this school is already under the supervision of the state, because they were in the bottom numbers on state wide tests three years ago. I suppose their answer to low test scores is having the children skip math and science class to watch yo yo demonstrations. It should also be mentioned that this demonstration was given the first week back to school  after a week long break and during a week when the children would be missing an entire day of classes to visit the circus. So basically, the children have missed two weeks of classes now.

It is no wonder then that our schools fall behind the rest of the nation. How are our children to learn if they are attending non educational assemblys when they should be in class? What could be more distracting from school work than the office selling yo yos and the students walking the halls playing with their new toys?

If the above was an answer as to our states education woes the answer to the nations economic problems was to come yesterday. The children having attended yet another assembly, though one for a much better cause, veteran’s day, came home with miniature Americian flags. After doing their homework we were watching a movie and the children were sitting in the floor. I noticed the oldest looking at his flag. When he saw me staring at him he said “Mom, isn’t this the Americian flag.” I responded thinking I was being clever, “No it is the US flag.”  To this he replied “But why does it say made in China then?”

Surely enough, there printed right on the red white and blue were the dreaded words made in china.  How do you explain that to your child? How do you look them in the eye and tell them that we have exported all of the US jobs, even the making of our own flag to a country that not only owns us financially but that has imported many dangerous products into our country? I couldn’t find the words and lamely said ” A lot of things are made in China now.” With the voice of innocence he replied “But the US flag?” My heart broke as I replied “yes even that”.

How can we as a nation expect to prosper if we do not manufacture any products to sale? How can we survive if we ship all our jobs to forigen soil? How do we explain to our children that the symbol of their nation is “made in China”?

WAKE UP AMERICA!

The Election Bitter Sweet

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

As is usual after any major election I am very dissapointed in My state. Not only was Kentucky once again a red state despite the horror of the last 8 years but worse Kentucky failed to ditch Mitch yet again. Yes. We sent Mitch McConnell who so carefully aligned himself with Bush’s policies back to Washington to reek more havoic on our country and state. I do understand the argument that Mitch holds a high ranking position in the senate and therefore gives Ky more power than a newbie would be able to, but if that high ranking position is used to send our men and our money to a senseless war, to cut Ky’s education budget, and to vote no to coal to diesel factories that would boost Kentucky’s economy then the position is more harm to Kentucky than good.

However, at least this election there is a good consolation prize. For, no matter how displeased I am with  my state, I am ever more proud of my country.  The people of America finally decided that enough was enough and fired the republican party. While a few republican senators kept their positions, the majority of seats were turned over to the democrats as was the white house and once again I am proud to be an American.

Thank God I was Wrong!

I am over joyed tonight to be able to say that I was wrong!

I didn’t believe that Obama had what it required to take the democratic party to the white house, though I agreed fully with his politics. Thank God I was wrong. We now have hope as a nation for a tomorrow and a continuing democracy. We have seen that the people still hold the power in America!

I did not believe this election would occur and was certain Bush would find a way to maintain office and was indeed the Anti Christ! I am overjoyed to be able to count myself amongst the thousands who have wrongly predicted the rise of the Anti Christ before me. Thank God I was wrong and for another day  the land of the free!

I thought that our country and freedom was no more but thank God I was wrong! My faith In America and her people has been restored!

GOODBYE BUSH! HELLO FREEDOM AND CHANGE!

Kentucky THE BLUE STATE!!!

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

The last few days I have been thinking about how very odd it is that Kentucky of all states is a red state. Here in the bluegrass state,  home of the big blue Kentucky wildcats and the blue moon of Kentucky,  my blue vote barely counts.

Yet, each election I do my part in returning Kentucky to her blue roots and vote for the candidates who will bring change and prosperity to our great commonwealth and nation. I encourage each and every Kentucky democrat to do the same today. Go and vote! Do not be discouraged by the fact that traditionally our state is a red state. It is time for Kentucky to live up to her name as the bluegrass state and there is only one way that this will ever be accomplished and that is if each and every Kentucky democrat votes their conscience at the polls. In this red state registered democrats outnumber registered republicans two to one. How then does this remain a red state? The simple answer is Kentucky’s democrats don’t vote.

Let us give the nation a surprise today and return Kentucky to her blue roots.  GO VOTE DEMOCRATS!!!!!

McThief Steals from the poor to give to the rich

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

John McCain sponsored a bill that would take 79 percent of jobs from the poorest people in our nation, those of eastern Ky.  In this impoverished area of the nation coal is the main source of income and the driving force of the economy.McCain’s energy bill would eliminate 79 percent  of all coal mining jobs.

Is this how McCain would deal with our energy by eliminating a source of domestic fuel and relying more heavily on foreign oil? Is this how he would deal with the economic crisis, by stealing food from the mouths of the nation’s poorest inhabitants?

Thankfully the bill was not passed, but this should be seen as a clear map to where John McCain’s presidency will lead our nation. If you support the robbing of poor Americans to feed the rich foreign oil tycoons then McCain is the man for you. As for me and mine we will support the candidate who will leave food on our table.

Should Public Business Openly Endorse A Candidate?

Published by rlrwk under Uncategorized Edit This

Today I went to another town to do some shopping that most unfortunately can not be done in Pikeville which has only one small privately owned bookstore.

The bookstore I visited has been a favorite haunt of mine for years, carrying rare books which are hard to find other places. Even more appealing to me, they have an entire section devoted to the paranormal happenings in eastern KY and a large religious section which I simply adore. I very much enjoyed hunting through the many books, all of which I’d have loved to bought if only rich, to find the two which I finally decided upon. Pleased with my choices and ready to begin reading I made my way to the cashier to hand over my $30.

Suddenly I was confronted by something completely unexpected, a John McCain and Sarah Palin sign sitting right next to the register. I’m sure the look of disgust covered my face immediately. I laid the books down and said never mind to the cashier/owner and turning at the door I told him he should remove the sign if he wanted anyone to buy from him. He neither laughed , argued, nor agreed but looked at me straight faced and said nothing.

I find it appalling (not to mention stupid) that any business would so openly endorse either candidate.Had it been an Obama sign it would have been offensive too. (only slightly less winks) Surely, they know they will lose and offend at least some of their customers no matter which candidate’s sign is sitting next to their register. If they wish to support a candidate would it not be wiser to do so privately?

I find it even more appalling that this was done in a bookstore. Bookstores main clientele are avid readers and FREE THINKERS who come there to find unbiased knowledge that will lead them to their own decisions and opinions. Bookstores are not places where one wishes to have a political agenda of another preached to them.

What do you think? Should public businesses openly endorse a candidate? Me? I’m boycotting Readmore bookstores! (although with mourning for the loss of my favorite haunt)
