Take Action

Published by rlrwk

On this page you will find ways in which you can become more personally involved with the politics and betterment of our state and our nation.  I encourage each and every person who reads this site to use at least one if not more of these techniques. We can all do more. That being said I will not place anything on this page which I myself have not participated in.  Although if you know of an organization that you think I or other readers of this site would be interested in please do send the information to rlrwk@yahoo.com and I will look into it.

Vote

Those who don’t vote have no right to complain and do their country a great disservice.  Many elections have been won or lost on one vote.  Register to vote, make your voice heard, and possibly change the future of our nation and world at this website. http://www.rockthevote.com/rtv_register.html

Contact Your Reps

All of us should know how to contact our representatives and should use this information. They need to know what the people they represent want and need. For those of us in Kentucky most unfortunately those representatives are republicans Hal Rogers and Mitch McConnell. However, though they might disagree with what I have to say I must say that these representatives have taken the time to read and reply to each of my letters to them meaning that at the least they have heard my opinion before they cast their vote on important issues. The more people they hear  expressing the same concern the better chance we have of them voting the way we wish.  Therefore I encourage every democrat in Kentucky to write to these men and make your voices heard. You can contact them at the following addresses.

Hal Rogers: http://halrogers.house.gov/Contact.aspx

Mitch McConnell: http://mcconnell.senate.gov/contact.cfm

If you’re not in Kentucky you can visit this website to look up the contact information for your representatives.  https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

Write Your President

After you have written your representatives and let them know how you feel about important issues write to your president. This can be done here.  http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

ACLU

Join the ACLU! This group has taken a lot of bad press but when the constitution and the bill of rights come under attack, even by the government elect, it is this group that fights to restore our nations civil liberties and maintain the land of the free. Just last year they won a lawsuit to stop the unlawful spying and eavesdropping on American citizens telephone conversations by the government.  They can not do this without workers and money.  So please give the ACLU your money and your time at this website.  http://www.aclu.org/

Charities

It is very important that we do our part to fight hunger in our nation. There is no reason that in the US, the country which provides the largest amount of foreign aid, our own children  are starving, but most unfortunately this is occurring. This is occurring because we are so focused on helping other nations that we forget, or more likely we refuse to admit, that there are children in our own nation starving. Using these websites you can donate food and money to children and families in need right here in the US of A!  Remember not only do these charities need money they need workers. If you can’t donate money, donate time!

Inside of Kentucky  you can donate to and volunteer your time to Gods Food Pantry which provides food to people within our own state at this website. http://www.godspantry.org/home

Outside of Kentucky you can donate to Feeding America formerly known as Second Harvest food banks which provides food to families nationwide at this website. http://feedingamerica.org/default.aspx?show_shov=1

Also you can donate to US programs supported by the well known organization Feed The Children at this website. http://www.feedthechildren.org/site/PageServer?pagename=org_us_programs&JServSessionIdr001=nyz6f1eyk8.app24a

Go Green

Find simple ways to go green here. http://www.worldwatch.org/resources/go_green_save_green

When All Else Fails

When you’ve voted your conscience at the polls, wrote to your elected officials, and done your part in changing the things you can locally yet the government simply refuses to listen to the wishes of the people it is time to use your right to assemble. Take your voice to the streets of D.C. with these groups.

ACTION Coalition : I have lost this URL but will place it here when I find it.

ACLU:   http://www.aclu.org

Free Press. net http://www.freepress.net/

I stress that assembling should be used only when all else fails because the point of assembly is to capture the government’s attention and force them to realize how important a cause is to their people. That said when all else fails we go to the streets!
